I don't mean to trivialize your concerns or anything, but since when has this become a current newsflash? I mean, this kind of research has been talked about for years and years. Tobacco lobbyists pay for research that tries to counter it which is countered by more of the same research by anti-smoking lobbyiststo show the same statistics again and again. Many animals are being killed for this research too, which I have issue with because the point has been proven so there is no need to sacrifice more animals to restate the same results.

At the same time, we not only inhale second hand smoke, but also car emissions, factory emissions, bathe in treated water, drink water that's almost as bad as davis water, pesticide covered food, overlyprocessed food, etc... ANYTHING will give us cancer if we're exposed long enough to it. So, if smoking were banned all together, we would get cancer from something else.

I used to smoke and stopped (ok, I cheat once in a great while. You didn't just read that line so forget it exists... ) But I dont' really care if others smoke or not. what one does to their body is their own deal. Second hand smoke is just another poison added to the pot we stew in while we live.

my $.02

Very true too. you both make valid points as well. at my job, people are considerate enough to keep the smoke away frm the non-smokers. but there are lots of other people at shows with a lame attitude and don't care about how uncomfortable it makes others. I like the idea of smokers going outside to a designated area to puff away. I think it's a fair trade for the choice a smoker makes.

but if someone is considerate about smoking, let them. they hurt themselves, but it's their choice.

to go back to garote's suv analogy, I think driving an suv is completely inconsiderate. that will harm everyone no matter how you cut it. Second hand smoke you can try to avoid (or others can keep it away from you), but the waste an suv makes affects everyone even if you're not even on the same road.

I can be annoyed with a smoker, in my workplace, in my home, and in my public library.

arwoo?
I thought there was a law in CA that didn't allow for indoor smoking, especially in the workplace and at a library?

As far as your home, come on, you can totally flex your power there and kick people out if they don't respect your rules.
No one smokes in my house. Everyone, including me, goes outside.

Yo, I'm just curious here, but did I miss something a while back? You seem to touch on this issue periodically, and I'm curious as to why it's on your mind so frequently. Are you an ex-smoker? Did you lose someone?

Forgive me if my prying seems rude.

I smoked for 16 years, quit for good on 9/4/01. (Well, I've had one cigarette since then, but I've got a) bad company and b) a drunken stupor to back me up on that one.)

DAMN, sorry man. No, I don't recall that, but I'm sure you did write about it.

I rent from my mom as well - shall we compare bills? She charges me close to $400 a month, and is always bitching that that isn't enough. :)

Most of my friends live at home, and none of them pay any rent at all. It makes me insane!!! I could be doing so much with that cash! haha

Wow, maybe all our moms are on another Livejournal somewhere.

Oh, don't I. And I have my niece and nephew above me, so I have to be extra quiet at night. :(
