Well, I think I'm going to take some kind of hiatus from this LiveJournal thing. Somewhere in the last half-year I must have forgotten how "second-class" the whole practice of sharing distilled thoughts with strangers is. Better to know them in person, that way you have some measure of recourse to their tribal urges of impropriety and loyalty.

Funny how you can exchange contents of thoughts with someone, and it is as worthless and insubstantial as a fart in the wind. But grope someone in the back of a darkened club, and you'll be writing bad poetry to them for months. We humans are such ridiculous things.

If you folks don't see me around here, it's because I'm hiding in the back of a darkened club.

I may have to, for my psychological health. At some point I fooled myself into thinking that I could extend my social life through LiveJournal, instead of the other way around. It became more than just a 'journal', it became my attempt to meet people and make friends.

I thought to myself, "Hey, my primary concern when finding new people to hang out with, is, how do they operate on the inside? How do they think? What are their attitudes? Ah hah, well look at all these journals, this is great! It's a chance to see right into someone's brain before I even shake hands with them! I'll start talking to the writers that I like, and find a new social group in those I live close to!"

Talking to the writes I like, ... like you, Heretic, ... is great, and I enjoy and am thankful for that. But in terms of starting up an actual, face-to-face social life, this has been utterly unfruitful. My error has been in thinking that most people are even interested in meeting their online associates. ... the whole "second class" nature of it, apparently.

Hey I thought the same thing, I met a LJer in a random setting, in a local club, only to find out that his romantic starry eyed journal is a hook for meeting women and nothing more. I think that the problem with the LJ is that people lie like everywhere else, and I must admit that I do the same thing to a degree. I am not going to say my most personal feelings on an online forum where people could end up meeting me randomly and saying "aren't you the one who..."

But I like you, you're refreshing, that's why I like your journal. People searching for higher intellectual being are so hard to find, so you add something to this LJ community. That's just my thoughts, though, and I might be just as phony as the rest of them, so maybe I shouldn't be listened to either. The thing with meeting people online is meeting people who have something more going for them than an internet connection.

Better off meeting in a restaurant or a library or even a video arcade, than a club. I see the first priority in an in-person meeting as being able to talk, and clubs just do NOT work for that. Heh heh.

Plus I'm biased, I don't enjoy clubs in general...

Well, it was actually more of an incidental meeting, but I don't think it was a good thing, there's also another LJ user that I see on a pretty regular basis, we chat a little and then we move on.

Yeah, that's the whole internet thing ... instead of being physically slimy, some people take the opportunity to be mentally slimy. :/

Only one way around it really, meet in person and have a chat somewhere, and find out how much the documented journal persona coincides with the projected physical one ...

Of course, there's no way to TRULY know what's going on in someone's head. That takes time. I wonder how much slower the relative timeframe is for knowing a person, if you spend the while time talking online versus hanging out in person ...

Well, I'm sitting here haXoring on a laptop next to Alex, who is also haXoring on a laptop. Mark is next to him. Mark just kicked ass in the kitchen, and we have many many many many many many satan many many pizzas with garlic and chipotle and mushrooms and etc. As soon as the pizzas are ready we're gonna go into the other room with Andy and Amber, and watch "the frighteners".

A good weekend so far, I reckon. Maybe not wild and out of control, but pretty good.

If I was going to be phony, I should hope that I would be most successful at it, encouraging thoughts of a twenty inch waist, and the Jaguar that I have, and that my rich successful husband is constantly out of town, but lets me buy as many Fendi bags and Gucci shoes that my little heart desires in his absence. Despite the picture I am blonde, and I have little to do with my time, what with not working and all.

I haven't played StarCraft, I love the Sims, EE, and Alice, I never mastered Civilization, but I really liked it, and Diablo is also very cool.
