FOR SALE: CHEAP
One 60GB iPod Photo
One year old. Thoroughly used. Backlight is burned out and definitely not repairable. Pause/Play button occasionally sticks. Remote control accessory port does not function. Hold switch does not engage. Unit is covered with scratches, some quite remarkable. Unit has been pried open repeatedly. Unit has been dropped. Conspicuous dent on bottom of case. Docking port has become corroded - synchronizing sometimes downshifts to USB 1 speed. Unit has minor debris on inside of display area. Unit has probably suffered water damage.
However: unit still plays music loud and clear, and holds a great charge!
:D
I repeat: CHEAP

Date: 2005-12-24 11:46 pm (UTC)When using it in the car, I would shove it in the accessory slot beneath the radio, regardless of what other items were in there. Sometimes I would carry it in a sweater pocket, or the front pocket of my overalls, when it was too cold out to go fumbling around in my pants. Every now and then it would fall out from there.
A couple times I took it out of my pocket to sit down, and put it on my desk. Then I'd get up and walk away, forgetting it wasn't in my pocket, and it would slide to the floor.
Actually all those accidents didn't affect the iPod functionally... It just got a progressively more scratched. It was when I left it in my raincoat pocket in a warm room when all the functional damage began. Some water had oozed into the pocket, and the iPod soaked it up for a couple of hours.
When I pulled it out, the display was flickering and there was condensation on the inside of the window. I held it next to a gas heater and tried to vacuum it out but that only helped a little. So I got out a set of tiny screwdrivers and opened it up.
That's when I saw all the dirt and corrosion inside. Apparently it had been building up for quite a while. I used Q-tips and rubbing alcohol to clean all the parts I could get to, including the window of the screen, and a polishing cloth to dry it out, but the backlight worked less and less until it stopped working altogether. I reassembled the iPod, resigned to continue using it without a backlight, but shortly afterwards the hold switch stopped working.
And if I can't engage the hold switch, I can't really use this iPod.
