Yee-haw!

One of my initial impressions of Oregon:

"There's something weird about the people here. What is it? ...... Ooooh, that's it! EVERYONE HERE IS WHITE!"

Some things I did today:

  • Smacked around some perl code for work.
  • Probed around on the Gnutella network for the first time, to see what it was like. Nothing but mislabeled music and bad pr0n.
  • Created a new T-shirt in my online store; a design I've been wanting to throw together for, like, a year now. Anyone who's seen Golden Boy will appreciate it.
  • Scanned another 70 or 80 slides, damn this is slow.
  • Wrote a large amount of email
  • Ate some fish file`ts in white-sauce with saute`ed onion, broccolli crowns, garlic salt, and parmesean cheese.
  • Talked with my ma about her cousin, who is in the hospital about to undergo surgery for artery blockage

Hrm. I should update my "other" journal. Got some stuff I wrote in Portland and Roseburg to add.

Okay, so you haven't passed judgment on this particular facet of Portland, but in case you're about to... :) That was one of the reservations that the horribly-misguided vegan girl who had the room for rent had about Oregon. She was comparing Oregon to California: there's a higher percentage of whites here, in Oregon.

And she is correct. But she neglects the other side of this particular case: Up here, people of different ethnicities actually talk to each other, without any reservations or weird ingrained societal barriers in the way. Anyone can hang out with anyone.

Once, while living in the desert, I went to Carson City, Nevada and saw Mexicans in the Chinese restaurant. I think it was the first time in my California-bred life I'd ever witnessed that. It surprised me, somehow. Same rules apply up here. The "racial" barriers are much thinner, and coming from the image-thickness of California, I haven't even been able to discern any of them yet.

My two cents...

I wouldn't say so, those guys in Carson City had the full moustaches and hats and everything. Hmm. Probably there's more 'homogonization' up here compared to Nevada.

No tans: Hmm yeah :) Actually that is pretty striking, now that I think about it...

why are you so surprised? there's a whole ton of whites in america which is not something new. surprised if you never noticed. unless you come from harlem or something.

blah blah blah

i don't try to pick arguments when that is clearly your pastime.
looks like someone doesn't like being bothered...hmmmmm
maybe this certain someone should stop bothering first...

don't worry, i won't be back...just wanted to make sure you know how much you suck.

and its not that we misunderstand each other. its that you dont understand anything

la la la :)

well seeing as how i was only acting like you by getting involved without being invited, i guess you are also in third grade. there's no reason not to be civil.

but, that's cool.

an also, it wasn't your decision to ignore me, it was mine to ignore you, quite obviously. but who's looking for credit right?

anyway, i already deleted your comments, sorry, but not because i feel that they are without merit. i am sure in your particular situation they may have been just waht you needed, and that's great.i just hadn't garnered anything from any of it but aggravation, and i would think any able-minded person would rid themseleves of that, right? and that's not a jab at you. it's just how i feel.

i think a lot of what i said to you was misunderstood, because you are so quick to debate just for the sake of argument, and that's just not what i am looking for. i am often up for a good discussion, but this wasn't supposed to be one.

so i am sorry you wasted any time on me even though i didn't ask for it, and i thank you for your opinions and suggestions, as wrong as they are for myself. but if you didn't expect me to disagree with you in my own journal, where you debate my feelings, then you should have expected it. anyone would.

so this time, i promise i really will not be back because now i have said all i wanted to say and anything else after would be babbling to get under your skin and therefore of little importance. i just wanted to make it clear that i don't have it out for you, i hold no ill will towards you. and i really did want to know why you were surprised at the amount of white people in oregon. but no matter.

i wish you nothing but the best.
