Heh heh... Um... I'm coming to the conclusion that anyone can sing well, if they're not tone deaf and/or naturally pitchless. But it takes a lot of work before you're ready:
* Crank out a silly track that you want to put some vocals on, and/or do a cover song using a MIDI file and your voice. Do several of these. Never play them for anybody ;) Well, it's your call... * Record yourself singing using different vocal techniques and take notes as to what you're doing differently in each take. Listen to them carefully. Try to grok their differences and be ready to employ a particular style when it's needed. * Be kind to your voice. Try singing from your gut, make the sound originate from the lowest point possible (saves wear and tear on your throat). Drink lemon tea with a little honey in it. * Get ready to record and re-record and re-re-re-re-re-record every syllable of every lyric. It is a painful, arduous process, in my experience. Record and save every take, then play them back the next day and choose your favorite. Often the first take will be the best. Practice getting yourself in the right mindset as you do this.
Blah blah etc. Or just grab the mic and go BOOM BOOM CHUKKA follow the leader
