Dry and hot is the idea. :) I do better in hot than in cold, and better in dry than in wet.
Yeah, the original route did Washington, and then turned south to Portland, but I cut that part off because of time constraints.
Then I realized I could start at Crater Lake (close to my pop's house) and head east on much calmer, more scenic roads to Hell's Canyon, instead of scudding alongside highway 84 for almost a week. So now my plan is to visit Portland to pick up vegan treats and visit friends, then go south to my Dad's, then visit Crater Lake with him, then camp there and begin biking east.
When I saw this, I thought you were boasting that you had averaged 30 miles a day for the past six weeks. And I was really jealous. About 30 in a day is my record.
30 miles a day is a decent average- definitely nothing to boast about. The """serious""" cyclists generally count on covering FIFTY miles every day, and sometimes will do twice THAT on the flatlands of Kansas etc. But I expect to stop and take a lot of pictures, and go slowly up a lot of hills. There will be many hills involved!
