Ice Pirates, Hyaarrr
Dec. 12th, 2008 12:09 amSo, to try to improve my mood, I watched "The Ice Pirates". A film from 1984 that I barely remembered from heavy rotation on the satellite TV channels.
It's a ridiculous mixture of elements - Jazzercise, RenFaire, video game geekery, and Aussie-style wastelands - that perfectly captures the decade. Watching it was like cracking open a time capsule to the culture of my youth and dumping it all over the floor. It was fantastic. And what other movie proudly features closing credits such as:
Pimp Robot By
ZANY ANIMATED PRODUCTIONS, INC
SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA
Out of curiosity, I checked, and yes, the pimp's on YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLIfji5C11I (NSFW language)
Also the Alien homage scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-me2inj1nNw&NR=1
Instant classic.
