We spent the weekend here, as a prelude to our longer trip in August. Though there was plenty of snow on the lookout range, the highest peaks were clear.

Sand Pond was extremely cold, and virtually deserted. The sandy bottom was lined with polliwogs, resting silently. When bugs landed on the surface of the water, the polliwogs would dash up and chomp them. Polliwogs are also unable to comprehend humans, apparently - you can walk up to them, move your hands slowly down to the sand, and scoop the creatures up into your cupped hands.

If we weren't so far from home, we'd take a few back with us and raise them into frogs.
