Agreed with about all of it. I would amend a sentence: "The modern press is absolutely enthralled by whatever happens on Twitter, since—" the press has been decimated in numbers, and no longer has the ability to research actual "stories" that require boots-on-the-ground reporters, and will therefore go for any freely acquired content that can generate ad revenue (which is, of course, their ultimate job, to stay in business).
