Your little home internet router may be choking on oversize data packets. Try this.
Go to System Preferences, click on Network, then select your active network connection (wired or wireless) and hit Advanced, then select the Hardware tab and set the MTU to a custom value of 1453.
It may solve your problem. How's that for bizarre?
