Yesterday I had my doctor appointment... They attempted to take blood from my right arm, then switched to the left, and then jabbed me with FIVE different needles, two in one shoulder and three in the other, to get me the immunizations I needed for travel. I didn't feel soreness at first but I'm feeling it now!!

The doc said my symptoms could just be stress related, but they could also be indicative of Grave's Disease, especially given the lab results I had five months ago. I'll have better information sometime before next week, depending on how fast the lab turnaround is. Next week I have an appointment to get my thyroid gland ultrasounded, just in case.

After the doctor visit I felt a need to escape from the world so I drove the van to Big Basin and got a camping spot, and walked around in the light rain, enjoying the relative quiet of the forest. There is no cell coverage anywhere within the park, so I was a bit isolated, but that was just fine. I think I should do that sort of thing more often, in fact.

Grave's Disease: Eek. If it's true, then at least the symptoms are treatable. (I read it on the internet, so it must be true.) It could very well be stress-related, too. Stress has a funny way of wrecking everything.

Are there still places on Earth with no cell coverage?! I NEED.

Why does it take a while for shots to hurt? I hate that.

Most of the women on my Mom's side have thyroid issues, myself included. Stress definitely can influence the activity of your thyroid temporarily, and the labs and other test(s) will help single stuff out. I have my fingers crossed for a stress-only result!

If they start talking about taking your thyroid out, get another doctor. My thyroid has swung from underactive to overactive to normal and now that I'm normal again I'm sure glad I didn't do anything drastic. I had a great doctor when I was in SF on Kaiser and he was all about finding ways to treat the problem.

When my thyroid was overactive I took Methimazole to inhibit its ability to absorb iodine, thus lowering its thyroid hormone output. This totally worked for me and with no apparent side effects.

Good luck with this.
