An article very worth reading

Since reading this article, and ruminating on it a while, I decided to ramp my sugar consumption way down and see how it treats me. I have to say, it's been treating me well.

Though I already knew about the predominance of sugar in American food and its connection to an obesity "epidemic", I never thought about the nature of the connection. I assumed it was just a matter of volume. But it it's really a matter of intensity...

Bits of the article remind me a lot of how confessionals from 'success stories' of the Atkins Diet sounded. I'm not denying he's on to something, or at least close to something, but he sure does want to sell you on the secret of his weightloss.

That said, since hooking up with the Fabulous Boymeat, who watches sugar and additives in his food like a hawk, I've been eating much less processed food and less sugar, and I know /I've/ been feeling better physically as well. (Much like when I cut fast food out of my diet. Imagine that. Fast food is bad? Heh.)

My experience with Atkins was that it gets you used to eating less, and it sticks, if you give it a chance.

I don't recommend staying on it long term. I recommend realizing you probably need about half the food most Americans seem to be eating, and if you eat the RIGHT half, you stand a good chance of not being hungry enough to miss the other half.

This article certainly made me more aware of my hypochondria! Thanks Garote!

So.... speaking as a:

Chronically overweight, yo-yo-dieting, off-the-scale hypertensive, (formerly) off-the-scale diabetic, low-carb enthusiast, with off-the-scale glucose / insulin responses... (no kidding)

This was a fantastic article. Sugar day won't work. That's like giving a crack addict crack day once / week. Just put the pipe down.
